Interesting update on Telehealth and other support technology for those who consider themselves vulnerable.
A survey showed 79% of medical specialists such as cardiologists have increased use of telehealth, also known as telemedicine, and 75% have confirmed they will continue to use it.
Bullies are notorious for violating others’ personal space. They make it a point to get too close. I want you to understand that bullies do this deliberately to intimidate and challenge targets. 640 more words
The UK’s largest digital inclusion campaign – takes place each October and is coordinated and delivered by Good Things Foundation
Get Online Week was established in October 2007 when what was then UK online centres chose to bring digital inclusion to national attention. Since then the campaign has grown into a week-long annual celebration, with thousands of events taking place each year in centres and more unusual locations, bringing digital skills and know-how to everyone.
Our project will be creating opportunities for our residents faced with the challenges of digital transformation to talk to our volunteer Online Chum Mentors about their role in both addressing social isolation and how they can peer support individuals to take control over day-to-day digital tasks that many take for granted.
Many of our members are vulnerable whether it is Learning Disability, mental heath, digital poverty or personal characteristics that increases dependency on others for help is accessing socially essential services.
To connect with us you can access our member designed website, where you can contact our project. This will be monitored by our volunteer Online Chums who will answer any questions you have about how we can help you. Of course we are acutley aware that even accessing a website is too much for many, which is why we are also making sure more traditional forms of communication are available i.e., telephone contact.
We also want local social support agencies to register an interest so that they to can alert those individuals they feel would benefit from the help on offer.
Tolerance and acceptance are two very different meanings. Using language to undress a problem goes a long way to protecting yourself. One thing bullies don’t have in their armoury!

When people talk of tolerance, I immediately cringe. I don’t find the word very attractive because let’s be real here. The word itself has an ugly ring to it. To put it bluntly, it sounds downright gross! Sadly, many targets of bullying are so afraid of being alone that they settle for friends who aren’t […]
No matter who you are regardless of ability we must strive to seek out the ‘real’ me in us all.

To become comfortable in your own skin, it takes several years and plenty of life lessons and experiences. It takes being knocked down enough times by enough people before you can finally say, enough is enough and choose to be happy. And when we choose to be happy, despite our imperfections and what others think […]
Today we discovered we had been awarded support from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund (National Lottery Community Fund) made possible from Government. Increasing help to our Digital Befrienders is critical towards enabling our beneficiaries to overcome the barriers that thwart getting online, especially in the present climate where many socially essential services are only accessible online in order to accommodate the new working practices. Many older and disabled residents experience digital poverty, lack confidence or do not have basic digital skills to maintain their independence in the home. Our Digital Befrienders are there to help guide and facilitate individuals to adopt a take control attitude while acting as a listening post. There overall aim is to ensure you feel safe and secure online, while creating traditional community connections to tackle social isolation. You can find out about mentoring on our community website: https://www.parkviewprojectne.com/online-chums
If you live in North Tyneside, UK and you feel you can offer people digital support then get in touch with us.
Acknowledging people with Learning Disabilities is vital to understand how communities work. We all have a role to play!

If you’re from my generation, I’m sure you remember the series from the early ’90s, “Life Goes On.” And if you remember this television series, then you automatically think of Corky Thatcher, the mentally challenged middle child of the Thatcher family, played by Chris Burke. He, in real life, has Down’s Syndrome. I’m not writing […]
Startling news to hear of Facebook’s newest incursion into ordinary lives of those living with disabilities/illnesses by not showing recommendations for health related groups. The impact of this cannot be measured except in the potential harm arising to those living with difficult to diagnose diseases such as ME, Fibromyalgia, MS. Lyme Disease, Mast Cell Activation disease and no doubt many others too. Those of us who rely on seeking help, where the medical profession has no answers is, rely on finding others experiencing similar problems. Let us not pass up on this one without letting Facebook know of the damaging effect this will have on peoples lives.
