Learning Disability Apps

Came across this American based site detailing a variety of apps for education, leisure and development. https://www.neurodevelop.com/Apps_for_Learning_Disabilities

Many of our members and beneficiaries have a Learning Disability. However, these apps can also prove beneficial for those with other neurological conditions such as ME where some experience cognitive blunting, processing information, fatigue, visual disturbances and poor memory.

Mapping the rise in online learning – An introduction

Online learning is available to all. However, a focus by technology companies to create easy-to-read and navigable content is critical to ensure those with disabilities can particpate in making online learning truly inclusive. However, for many access is dependent on embracing digital processes, which is why we provide local support for vulnerable people living in North Tyneside with solutions to getting involved. We do this by breaking down the barriers that exclude them from taking advantage of all that the internet has to offer by delivering online support close to home and, thereby, increase the level of competency for developing their interests online and. critically, to give them the basic digital skills to tackle online learning.

Weevl Bloggers Corner

Blogging is our focus and connecting with others with a disability is encouraged. But we do try to peer support where individuals experience difficulties that by working together can find solutions together. A consequence of our Digital Befriending Scheme is that we are able to foster happy relationships between our members thereby increase social circles of support.  Our drop in centre is usually a hive of activity but the current state of emergency dictates that all our support is online.  This situation is important, but we never loose sight of a social goals of getting people online to offline community participation.    Simon tutoring

Park View Project Community Reporters Active Learning

Alongside our in-house online courses introducing digital processes to those who are elderly and disabled , we also have a highly interactive learning tool based on adopting the perspective of a journalist. The course is staged covering all aspects of using digital including basic communication skills and personal development. It involves taking on an assignment where you produce a story, feature or article about something happening in your local community. It could be an event, introducing a support group, a local neighbourhood initiative or anything as long as it is legal, decent, honest and truthful.

To help you with gathering all the material from interviews and editing you can call on our volunteer Online Chum Mentors to help you in your endeavour. This is a free course and one we hope participants will not just enjoy but find inclusive to their learning.
